Good friends the Harlem Shakes approached me about designing a tour poster for them in preparation for their tour with Tokyo Police Club in early 2009. Listening to an advance copy of their album in January 2009, Technicolor Health seemed to capture the zeitgeist of the time, with Obama’s recent election and the era of hope descending on the nation. Taking a nod from the cover art, which displayed a rainbow of colors launching into the sky over a desolate cityscape, I took it one step farther and found the source of that light, and one person’s attempt to grab on to the hope emanating from it. The 18’’x24’’ 4-color poster ended up selling out and was even featured in the Shake’s music video for the song Strictly Game.
