It’s a great thing when you’re a designer to have friends in bands! My friends in Minus Story asked me to design a poster in preparation for their tour winter tour with Okkervil River in 2005. Giving me free license to do whatever I wanted, I picked the theme of “the outsider”, given both bands’ unique brand of indie rock that was a little outside the mainstream. Since the tour was taking place in the depths of winter, I settled on the image of a penguin looking longingly at birds in flight, while he was stuck on a gigantic iceberg. The 18’’x24’’ poster was printed in two colors by Patient Pending. It was featured in Print Magazine’s 2006 Regional Design Annual and also won an International Davey Award that same year.
